Cantonese opera actor Gei is about to retire and hopes that his daughter Hiu-lam can continue his career. Hiu-lam, however, abandons her Cantonese opera study and becomes a single mother at a young age. Gei and Hiu-lam find themselves in estrangement even after Little Suen, Hiu-lam’s daughter, is born. Hiu-lam understands that it is her father’s dream to go back to the stage, but she can only rely on him to take care of her daughter. Chance has come when Gei is invited to perform on stage again, but when he gets injured during practice, Hiu-lam decides to act in her father’s place.

Local Power Local Power 是今屆香港亞洲電影節的重點推介，宣布一班香港電影新導演正式登場！他們大部份一直在影圈的不同崗位默默耕耘，不少更是第一次做導演。但從這批作品可見，他們潛力豐厚，戰鬥力強，勢必各領風騷。我們相信不久的將來，他們的電影將再臨香港亞洲電影節。 Local Power is the new section and highlight of this year's HKAFF. This is to showcase a group of young directors and cast, who have been in the mainstream film industry and yet not entirely being absorbed. They continuingly demonstrate their edge and uncompromising attitude in making film, unleashing their powerful energies so as to make their vision seen, their noise loud! With their unyielding passions, we can foresee their future works arriving HKAFF again. Let's feel the local power!
Local Power 1三部短片，三段人間七情六慾。資深音樂人梁翹柏首次執導，找來盧巧音與黃貫中友情參演，在《美好時光》(Betacam/60分鐘)中透過一宗命案，把纏繞於現實與電影世界的女演員、身陷中年危機的自閉音樂人、有自虐傾向的年青警員、行將走到生命盡頭的老歌手共冶一爐，樂觀看眾生。司徒永華的《攝》(DV/20分鐘) 中，吳嘉龍與Maggie Q化身攝影癡。一天女生暫住男生的家，趁對方不在，八卦他的隱私，卻赫然發現自己是他的秘密，掀起兩性關係中的窺淫狂迷。許潔華的《失蹤》(35mm/14分鐘)，找來尹子維飾演誓要尋找出走女友的痴情漢子，他行遍紐約大街小巷，找不到女友，卻發現意料之外的秘密。康城參賽短片。(全長94分鐘) Lust, emotions and mysteries unfold in three local short films. WONDERFUL TIMES (Dir: Kubert Leung/Betacam/60min) depicts the solitary lives of people from all walks of life, who have their own wonderful times in life clinging to their mind. Not until a homicide happened did this situation turn into a more optimistic finale. TAPED (Dir: Szeto Wing-wah/DV/20min) records the extreme voyeuristic compulsions of a love triangle. Maggie Q and Carl Ng play two camera buffs who simply take photos of everything around them, and later spin into complex ties when they decide to live in the same apartment. MISSING (Dir: Kit Hui/35mm/ 14min) follows a lovelorn man who is desperate to find out the whereabouts of his girlfriend. As he uncovers the mystery of her disappearance, he catches a haunting glimpse of New York City and realizes something unexpected. (Total running time: 94min)
Local Power 2 畢業於演藝學院電影電視學院的生力軍許學文，幾部短片，功力盡現。新作《枉少年》(21分鐘，第一屆鮮浪潮大學生短片賽最佳電影)，一班無方向無理想的野蠻學生，最愛撩事鬥非，閒來班馬講數，無無謂謂過日子，可是，輕狂換來的卻是沉重的代價。《綠衣》(37分鐘) 的年輕軍裝警員，與老差骨拍檔終日在灣仔巡邏，處理芝麻綠豆的瑣事。一次突發事故，令他明白當警察的真諦。《一擊》(13分鐘) 中，本來已退隱江湖的黑市拳手被逼復出，在他發出最後一擊前，時間停頓。《Out of Focus》(4分鐘) 解構一個殺手的內心世界，進而解構一部電影。四部短片層次分明，才情畢露。教人十分期待許學文的長片早日面世。(DVCam / 全長78分鐘) A graduate from The School of Film/TV of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Frank Hui Hok-man proves himself one of the most exciting budding filmmakers to watch with the four shorts in this program. WASTED (21min, Best Film Award at the 1st HKIFF Fresh Wave Joint Universities Short Film Competition) revolves around a group of teenager gang and reveals the dark side of high school life. THE UNIFORM (37min) centers on a young patrol rookie who finds the life of a policeman both tedious and unexciting. His dream of a detective is shattered after being accused of abuse of authority. BREAK (13min) portraits the psychological conflict of a retired young boxer who is forced to return to the fraudulent ring for a last combat. OUT OF FOCUS (4min) is an exercise of deconstruction of the killer’s icon in the movie cinema. (DV, Total running time: 78min)
Local Power 3青春，是敢作敢為、衝動幹勁、可歌可泣，歡笑迷惘？本地多位獨立導演，以影像記錄成長印記，刻劃青蔥歲月。《蝴蝶》導演麥婉欣的《八月的故事》(22分鐘)，繼續她的特有女性觸覺，將陳慧同名小說搬上螢幕，描述一段在洋服工場裡發生的三角戀(Jan@Krusty+田原+Dean)，淡然的情感，由心來聆賞。曾國祥棄演從導之作《周公。解夢》(22分鐘)，由國文老師朗讀《周公解夢》開始，走進四個中學生疑幻疑真的夢境，締造夢與預言間的宿命。譚國明的《小琴》(22分鐘)，同樣是夏日的成長記事：十三歲的小琴(董敏莉)與鄰家男孩(張敬軒)因大提琴結緣，一首《Lover’s Concerto》，奏出一段愛情小插曲。《單車日記》(22分鐘)中的細聰和安仔感情要好，大家都喜歡騎單車，一次交通意外，安仔不幸受傷，細聰對此深感自責，甚至萌生放棄單車的念頭。一輛單車，見證一段純真友誼。(Betacam / 全長88分鐘) In this omnibus TV drama series organized by RTHK, up-and-coming local filmmakers get together to sketch the happiness and bitterness of growing up. Tsang Kwok-cheung’s THE INTERPRETATION OF DREAMS (22min), according to Chau Kung, steps into the fantasy world of four teenagers, blurring the fine line between reality and fiction. AUGUST STORY (22min) by Yan-yan Mak (BUTTERFLY) is an adaptation from novelist Chan Wai’s short story, which centers around a complicated love relationship that transcend gender boundaries. Tam Kwok-ming’s MY FIRST MELODY (22min) is a concerto celebrating the friendship of a 13-year-old girl and her new neighbor, a timid boy whose mother has passed away. Singapore veteran filmmaker Eric Khoo’s NO DAY OFF (39min) records the life of a maid who leaves her husband and baby for Singapore. Darezhan Omirbayev’s ABOUT LOVE (38min) is a bitter love story based on Anton Chekhov’s novel, in which a lonely math teacher falls in love with her married university classmate. Pen-ek Ratanaruang’s TWELVE TWENTY (30min) depicts the encounters of a man and a woman on a long haul flight, where they spend the next twelve hours and twenty minutes reading, drinking, eating and watching movies and sleeping by each other’s side, as if they are a married couple.

She even uses her personal website to attract strangers to visit her apartment where she is holding the hostage.
