Kubrick’s second feature film tells the fateful encounter and love story between young boxer Davy Gordon and nightclub dancer Gloria. While Gloria’s boss Rapallo is about to rape her, Davy rescues her and the couple embarks on a journey of no return. Rapallo decides to have Davy killed, and Davy is determined to save Gloria from Rapallo’s abduction. KILLER’S KISS paints a vivid portrayal of Kubrick's unique brand of romance and violence.

With fascinating detail, Stanley Kubrick lays bare the intricate inner-planning of a racetrack heist by ex-convict Sterling Hayden and his crew. Hayden masterminds the plan which includes five men and brings them in on a seemingly fool-proof scheme to rob a race track of $2,000,000. Things go out of hand when Sherry Peatty (Marie Windsor), wife of the gang-member George Peatty (Elisha Cook, Jr.), tells her boyfriend Val Cannon (Vince Edwards) about the plan, and he cuts himself in on that action also. The robbery is completed and the gang goes to the hideout. Kubrick’s version of SCARFACE turns out to be a tense and suspenseful vein.

The roll of the drums, the click of the rifle-bolts, the last cigarette… Kubrick’s early work depicts how war challenges and denies humanity. Set on the warfront between German and French armies in 1916, General Broulard persuades General Mireau, who is hungry for promotion, to launch a suicidal attack. While the attack turns out to be a failure, Mireau convinces Broulard that discipline demands a sacrifice, and that one man will be selected from various companies to be the scapegoats. The conflicts between morals and survivals, as well as the dark sides behind the paths of glory are vividly sketched in this thought-provoking film.

An historical epic about the legendary Roman freedom fighter Spartacus, SPARTACUS is a story of courage and destiny. Spartacus, a Thracian slave sold to Roman Empire, is assigned to the Capuan school of gladiators. There he meets and falls in love with Varinia, a beautiful slave from Britain. He then escapes with his companions and becomes the leader of an army of slave. Their strong will to revolt against slavery yet lands Spartacus in the hands of the Romans. The film also marks one of the most outstanding cinematic appearances by Kirk Douglas.

While tensions between the US and the USSR remain prevalent in the Cold War period, Kubrick throws a hypothesis of what will happen if the two countries get into war. US Air Force General Jack Ripper is convinced that the USSR conspires to pollute the “precious bodily fluids” of the American people. The USSR ambassador even vows to trigger the Doomsday Machine once the US starts the attack. The fate of the land of glory has to depend on the former Nazi genius Dr. Strangelove.

One of the most significant and representative films by Kubrick, 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY links the notions of civilization, technology and humanity through the monolith. The opening sequences showing the apes roaming around and the appearance of the monolith have become one of the most classic sequences in cinematic history. Kubrick’s futuristic England is no paradise, but a hell overwhelmed with violence and bloodshed. Alex Delarge and his gang spend their time on all kinds of crimes, but then Alex is arrested by the police and receives a 14-year sentence. Hoping to leave the prison earlier, Alex decides to undergo a shock treatment initiated by the government. After agreeing to be brainwashed, he is released and can no longer countenance any form of violence. His untamed primitive instinct is once again provoked when he is offered by the government a lucrative mission.

Ireland, 18th century, young and roguish Redmond Barry is determined to climb the social ladder and to become a wealthy nobleman. Enlisting in the British Army, fighting in the Seven Years War in Europe, Barry deserts from the British army and joins the Prussian army, gets promoted to the rank of a spy, then becomes a con artist and gambler. Barry’s ambitions are fulfilled when he enters into a loveless yet lustful marriage with the wealthy countess Lady Lyndon. His quest for power and wealth unfortunately leads him to a tragic end.

An all-time horror classic, THE SHINING manages to impress viewers by its haunting imagery and score, in addition to the scary facial expression of Jack Nicholson. Hoping to write a novel there, former teacher Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) accepts the post of janitor for the winter at a hotel which is totally isolated from the outside world. The manager warns him that a janitor called Grady killed his wife and daughters before committing suicide. Jack settles with his wife and son, only to discover that his son sees things that he is not supposed to see. Disturbed by the spirits in the hotel, Jack finds himself on the verge of nervous breakdown, and most of all, he is uncannily stepping on the paths of Grady.

Kubrick’s response to the Vietnamese war is a portrayal of the weakness and fragility of humanity. The two-segment story follows a group of young men from the start of recruit training in the Marine Corps to the lethal cauldron known as Vietnam. The first segment follows Joker, Pyle and others as they progress through the hell of USMC boot-camp at the hands of the foul-mouthed Gunnery Sergeant Hartman. The second segment takes viewers to Vietnam. Joker, along with Animal Mother, Rafterman and others, face threats such as ambush, booby traps, and Viet Cong snipers as they move through the city.

As provocative as Kubrick always does, EYES WIDE SHUT is a bold and explicit portrayal of the ennui of the American middle class prototype and an examination of lust and morals. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman play a couple who embark on an unexpected sex adventure when they join a Christmas orgy party. The next night, the wife reveals sexual fantasies with a stranger, while a dead patient's daughter throws herself at the husband. As he tries to explore the world that he has never encountered, a streetwalker takes him to her flat, he interrupts men having a sex party with a girl barely in her teens. His odyssey, which next takes him into a world of wealthy sex play at a masked ball of hedonism, ends up threatening his life, his self-respect, and his marriage.
